Welcome to 2018. We think it will be a fabulous year. This is because there will be new consoles from Sony, Microsoft and a mystery entrant to the games market. A great skiing season also beckons and offers deep snow for outdoor games. Further, the summer will bring football and I am confident in predicting an English participation in the final. And, of course, there will be a general election / referendum / vote. So politicians and journalists will play and make games news as well.
But for the majority of games people, your new year’s resolutions might include career care and development.

The Inpatient
The Inpatient is an upcoming psychological horror video game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4 and its virtual reality headset PlayStation VR. The game will be released on the 24th January 2018.
The game acts as a prequel to 2015’s Until Dawn, set inside the Blackwood Sanatorium sixty years prior to the events of the original. The player controls a patient, whose gender is subject to choice, suffering from amnesia and therefore intent on reclaiming their memories. The outcome of the story is therefore consequent upon the decisions that are made. The developers have employed elements of psychological horror, which included them rendering three-dimension binaural audio to supplement the visuals.
You can find out some more information on the game and order at https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/games/the-inpatient-ps4/. You can also watch a behind the scenes developer interview at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LmpdAoasGI. Enjoy!

Gaming reaches new heights with 1 billion players now active online!
Wow, gaming has come a long way over the last 5 years. According to UKIE, in the UK alone, there are now 2175 active companies making games. It was reported last year that the global games market is worth $116 billion… this is up from $70 billion reported by Quora in 2013!
In 2013 Geekwire reported that there were 1.2 billion gamers with 800 million online.
And in 2014 The Guardian reported that 52% of gamers were women.
Then in 2016 MyGaming reported that there were 1.8 billion people playing games
As many may not be aware; I am a massive FromSoft fan and all of this information bodes well for me, especially when taking into account that the 25th of May 2018 will see the release of Darks Souls Remastered. This was one of the industries ground-breaking games first released in 2011. There weren’t that many players online playing it then, but now…? Back then it earned a cult following, inspiring a number of YouTubers to create channels dedicated to the series… They included even the U.S. President who recently tweeted about the new version stating he hopes they make the Pendant do something. Well if it’s got his vote…
