Game of The Month – Metro: Exodus
Metro Exodus is an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver. It is the third instalment in the metro video game series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels. It is scheduled for release on the 15th February 2019 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The game is set in 2036, two years after the events of Metro: Last Night, on a post-apocalyptic Earth that has been devastated by a nuclear war 23 years ago. The game continues the story from Metro: Last Night and the player assumes the role of 23 year old Artyom, who flees the metro in Moscow and sets off on a continent-spanning journey with Spartan Rangers to the far east. The player wields an arsenal of hand-made weaponry which can be customized through scavenging materials and a crafting system. The game includes a dynamic weather system, a day night cycle and environments that change along with the seasons as the story progresses. This is a game which blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in a really immersive game world.
You can find out some more information on the game and order at https://www.metrothegame.com. You can also watch a developer walkthrough here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXMo2ToOCsQ. Enjoy!
Thanks,
Michael
OUR TRAINING MANAGER WRITES…
Do character backgrounds have an impact on sales?
One of the most popular battle royale game to date; Apex Legends, has been out for a very short while and I have come across a number of articles surrounding the game. The one that has stood out most was a report by @thequartering who stated that the rise in popularity has stemmed from 75% of the games characters being part of either the LGBTQ community or having ethnically diverse backgrounds… Respawn have confirmed that at least 2 of the characters are gay. Is this just clever character backstories to generate sales by appealing to the mass market?
I personally don’t delve much into character backgrounds in the games I play, but it is interesting to note that the rise of the LGBTQ community is more recent than the actual presence of LGBTQ characters in games.
As far back as 1985, there have been characters in gaming that are part of this community. The first character was Paco from Le crime du parking, followed by Birdo from Super Mario Bros 2 in 1988. Coincidentally, this was the same year that activists in the US began using the LGBT initialism.
If you are in Germany over the next few months be sure to check out the following exhibition which is open until the 13th May 2019: Rainbow Arcade: Queer Gaming History 1985-2018 at Schwules Museum, Berlin.
