Datascope Games News Letter October 2017

We welcome Autumn.  The European world cup qualifiers have finished.  The political party conferences have failed to entertain us.  So Boris has bought itching powder for the sequel.  The media plans to derail the president have got underway.  They chose Harvey for the dress rehearsal.  But Donald will star in the real thing.  “But this is not Games News”, I hear you say.  You are right.  As I said, “it is Autumn” and when the leaves fall I like to ramble.  So what to do now?  You can read about games news in the newspapers if you’d prefer?  Or visit games jobs.  But we recommend you to read our games news letter October.

So scroll down and look at our games news and jobs…

Games News – Game of the Month

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Wolfenstein 2 is an upcoming action adventure FPS video game developed by Machinegames and Bethesda Softworks. So the game is among the most anticipated games on the market and at IGN’s Best of E3 2017 awards, the game was awarded Best Shooter. The game is the eighth main entry in the Wolfenstein series and is therefore scheduled to be released worldwide on October 27th, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox one, with a Nintendo Switch release scheduled for 2018.

Set in alternate history 1961 America following the Nazi victory of the second world war, the story follows war veteran William “B.J.” Blazkowicz and his efforts to fight against the Nazi regime in the United States. The game is also played from a first-person perspective and most of its levels are navigated on foot. The story is arranged in chapters, which players complete in order to progress. This will undoubtedly be a world-class shooter with gripping gameplay; compelling characters and a captivating story. Whether you like to sneak around, run-and-gun or take a tactical approach, your goal remains the same: Rally the resistance and end the Nazi’s tyrannical reign in America!

You can find out some more information on the game and order at https://wolfenstein.bethesda.net/ and you can also watch a gameplay/developer interview video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO4_-Bs0cl4. Enjoy it!

Our Training Manager writes with games news….

“VR is DEAD!”

What?! I am hearing this more and more in the office, in the industry and online, and my response will always be the same – try it first but make sure you’re getting your hands on good content.

The main issue is that we simply don’t have enough VR titles coming out to make any comparisons… VR is expensive, power hungry and the headsets are a little bulky; we are at least a few more years away from it becoming mainstream – sure there are good driving sims and a few short FPS games, but then and one can’t yet commit more than an hour to immersive play before your eyes take strain… I’ve tried!

Either way; if you need more convincing that VR is still on the up you’ve only got to wait until next month. On the 9th of November for VR: Develop is set to kick off in London at the Olympia Conference Centre! Personally, with a deflated E3, Gamescom and TGS, I am hoping this little something will lift my spirits (besides the pub) before Christmas 😉
